Clogged pipes are one of the most common reasons Venice, FL, homeowners call a plumber. Years of buildup caused by grease, soap and mineral deposits can cause some serious blockages. While traditional cleaning methods like chemicals and drain snaking can usually clear these blockages, they aren’t always ideal. For those situations, hydro jetting provides an alternative.

Chemical drain openers help break up clogs of organic matter like food and grease, but they don’t work on all blockages. They can also cause damage, such as softening of PVC pipes. Drain snakes scrape your pipes with metal blades. This poses the risk of damage while still leaving a lot of sludge behind.

For stubborn or recurring clogs that don’t respond to the usual cleaning methods,  hydro jetting may be more effective.

A hydro jetter consists of a water tank, a water-pressurizing machine and a high-pressure hose with a high-powered nozzle. The hose is fed into the built-in clean-out or access point in your plumbing system. As the hose moves upstream, the nozzle sends out high-pressure jets of water that cut away blockages and buildup.

Hydro jetting offers several advantages over traditional  drain cleaning methods.

  • It’s thorough. Drain snakes miss spots, and chemical cleaners can’t always deal with roots and mineral deposits. High-pressured water blasts through all types of blockages and removes buildup from the entire inner surface of the pipe.
  • It’s gentle on plumbing. Water jetters use only water. There are no harsh chemicals or abrasive equipment that could damage your pipes.
  • It’s environmentally safe. Chemical cleaners release toxic, corrosive chemicals like lye and acid into the local water system. Hydro jetters release only water.

Hydro jetting is usually reserved for those times snaking and chemical drain openers don’t work. It’s also necessary before pipe lining because grime and debris interfere with the lining’s ability to bond with the pipe.
